Runners EFFING Colitis

Not a good run for me today. I did about 2 miles before settling in at the track for 1000 repeats. It was hot and that was getting to me despite having plenty of water at my side. I tried through the first few intervals not to stop and take the recoveries as 2 minute jogs but I just couldn't do it. I ended up making concessions on the run to get through it (longer recovery, saying I could only do 800s if I had to, saying I could stop short of the 5 intervals if necessary). That worked really well and my intervals got much easier, however, before my last 1000 my stomach issues kicked in and I ended up having to go home.

I'm bummed about the whole stomach thing, it really bothers me that this keeps happening but I don't think there is anything that can be done about it. I've done some research and don't think I have anything super chronic like IBD or Crohns, and for anything less there really doesn't seem to much that can be done for treatment. It is always only running induced for me too. I hate it!

Interval recap: 4:11, 4:23, 4:17, 4:06

Happens to me too. Bathroom issues are the WORST!

Yesterday one of my patients had colitis...I felt SOOOOO bad for her, she was so miserable!

I hate bathroom issues while running...especially when you realize that there are no bathrooms nearby! gah!

Ugh, sounds awful. Maybe a diet change will help? I often have problems if I eat more than just a little dairy products and fructose. Grrr ...

But how nice to be able to hangout in the Stevenson area often. So beautiful there!

sorry 'bout your stomach issues - I've been fortunate enough to seldom have issues WHILE running - after is a completely different story of course.

sounds like your intervals ended up being pretty good anyways!

Sounds like it could be a gluten sensitivity and/or too much fiber? You may have to be pretty disciplined to figure it out- eliminate certain foods, then re-test to be sure you understand what causes the bad effects and what doesn't. I don't think I've ever gotten this (knock on wood) but know that many people have gluten problems but are unaware until they specifically exclude it.

Good luck. I'm sure you can beat this problem with a little patience.

Great advice from Drs Cynthia and David. An elimanation diet might be required. Thanks Drs Cynthia and David!
